Growing our Board of Directors

The Niagara Area Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, along with the rest of the organization, is in an exciting phase of growth restructuring! We have been fortunate to be able to welcome some new additions to the board this year including Shyam Sririam and Brent Solina.

Shyam is an assistant professor of Political Science at Canisius University who specializes in refugee resettlement. With a great passion for affordable housing and respect for the work of President Carter, Shyam is excited to join those two interests on the Habitat board.

Brent is the Director of Operations at Capro-X, Inc., an ag-tech company that produces sustainable biochemicals out of food waste. Brent comes to Habitat with significant experience with federal grant writing, corporate partnerships and board development. He is excited to dig in and learn more about Habitat’s work.

We are also very sad to have a few members leave the board within the last year including Tim Gelder, Jeremy Colby, Rev. Dr. Charles Searcy, and Kate Lockhart.

  • Tim was our longstanding board treasurer who provided valuable insight to the board on Habitat’s financial reporting. Additionally, as President of Barden Building Solutions Tim was a trusted partner, and continues to be, through several of our housing projects.
  • Jeremy, as previous legal counsel for Niagara University, was an embedded ally in the community. Jeremy was a constant legal resource for the whole team and always willing to pitch in.
  • Rev. Searcy, who serves at Third Presbyterian Church in North Tonawanda acted on the board as our faith representative. Rev. Searcy opened and closed our meetings with prayer and was a conduit to the local faith community.
  • Kate Lockhart, was able to serve briefly on the board and brought experience in housing legislation and policy. Kate was previously with Senator Sean Ryan’s office and now is the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives for the City of Buffalo.

We are so grateful for the service of all of our previous board members! They have added such a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the organization. Our substantial growth over the past 5 years would not have been possible without these dedicated volunteer board members.

Despite our recent additions, we are still actively seeking new board members! We are looking for individuals with a variety of talents but especially focusing on financial, legal, event planning, and faith-based community experience. Please reach out to info@niagarahabitat.org to learn more.
