What is the difference between Niagara Area Habitat for Humanity and Habitat for Humanity International?
Niagara Area Habitat for Humanity directly supports affordable housing solutions within our local communities here in Niagara County. As an independently run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), we operate under the broader Habitat model but manage our own fundraising, budgeting, and program decisions. HHFI supports a global mission to build and improve housing around the world. As the umbrella organization, HFHI coordinates national and international programs, disaster response efforts, advocacy initiatives, and partnerships that strengthen housing systems across countries.

When I make a donation to Habitat for Humanity, how do I know where the funds are going?
When considering making a charitable donation to Habitat for Humanity, both giving options advance Habitat’s mission of building homes, strengthening communities and creating opportunities that last. The key difference is impact scope. Gifts to HFHI extend your reach nationally and globally. Every dollar donated to Niagara Area Habitat for Humanity stays right here; funding local homes builds and critical repairs, volunteer programs and support services for hard working families across the western part of Niagara County.
HFHI runs its own fundraising and outreach campaigns that reach people in our geographic service area. As a local, independently run affiliate, we are not involved in their outreach plans. If you receive a mailing, email or other message that does not clearly say it is from Niagara Area Habitat for Humanity, then it is from HFHI. We know this can be confusing, and we want you to be informed about your giving. While any donation to Habitat for Humanity – whether on the international or local level – helps support the mission, only gifts directly made to Niagara Area Habitat for Humanity stay local and fund projects in our own community.
